Youth Fund Raiser and Auction!
Updated Feb. 25 - more photos!

On Saturday evening, February 6th, 2010, Dick and Cornie Thornburgh graciously opened up their home to host our Youth Group Fundraiser, “A Valentine's Soiree.”  We are happy to report this event was a huge success and a whole lot of fun was had by all. Both the High School and Middle School Youth Groups did an amazing job serving food, babysitting and running the auction. Kelsey Harrison did a great job helping the teens rotate their jobs and Nathan Gleason and Emma Davis made the auction as exciting as if being at Sotheby’s!  More importantly, we couldn't have pulled this off without all of the support from our church members. Thank you all for coming out and supporting our Youth!

Pittsburgh Rocked -- Mission Trip 2009
Staying relatively close to home this year, we sent a group of 18 students and 5 chaperones to help rebuild and repair homes for the elderly and isolated residents in urban Pittsburgh.  Projects included painting, dry walling, carpentry, and yard work, as well as minor plumbing and masonry tasks, building wheelchair ramps, fortifying retaining walls, and replacing doors, floors, and windows.  It was a week filled with much hard work and tons of fun

Over 250 high school youth from around the country participated in the Service Camp during the week of June 21-27 and as you can imagine, when that many youth come together ... fun and hilarity followed!  Many new friendships were made and our group spent time discovering and appreciating our faith.

Here are just a few pictures of our group during their down time.  We are assembling a slide show and video of the work we did and will be sharing this with the congregation on Sunday, October 4 in a Youth-led service.  Stay tuned for more!

Thank you, thank you to all those who bought Car Wash tickets and/or who came for a wash on Sunday, June 7. Thanks to our advance ticket sales and a picture perfect day, we raised over $600. We had many enthusiastic (and at times wet) youth working the event and we had a great time getting to know each other before leaving for Pittsburgh in two weeks. It was a great fundraiser -- thanks to all those who helped make it happen! Photos!

Saturday, May 30, 7:00 p.m. – An Evening of Jazz with Katharine Hedlund and Friends.

For years, many of us have watched with growing pride as Katharine Hedlund has developed her talent as a pianist and singer.  Katharine is now a high school senior, with plans to attend the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University next fall, pursuing a double-degree in Jazz Piano Performance and Liberal Arts. On May 30th, as a gift to the community, she and her friends performed in our “Music At First” concert series, playing a combination of jazz originals as well as arrangements of standards. Other musicians were: Jun Umegaki on tenor sax, Joe Hull on bass, and Mike Camacho on drums.

On the evening of May 15th, the Marietta College Concert Choir performed a magnificent concert at our church. The public was invited and welcomed! This impressive group of college students was welcomed into our church family for the night, with 15 families hosting choir members. Debbie Nelson and Bobbi Stuart organized a dinner for the choir before the performance.

The event was special to all, because of the quality of the performance and because of the involvement of our church families that enabled this event to happen.

A free will offering was taken for the benefit of the Norwalk Emergency Shelter.

Kids' Fun Night ... Fun and a Whole Lot More!
On Friday, May 1, our Youth Group ran a successful fundraiser to raise money for this summer's Mission Trip to Pittsburgh.  Over 20 children were entertained by our middle and high school youth with games, crafts, a cookie decorating contest, and more.  Great fun was had by all ... including the parents who went out to dinner together!
