Pilgrims visit sites where God’s presence makes itself especially felt.
Traditionally, these sites are great cathedrals, ruins, or shrines. But God is nowhere more present than in the need of our neighbors — and in the work of love of those who respond with mercy to that need. The Rio Grande Valley is a land made holy by tears, struggle, and compassion. We invite all adult members of the congregation to join us in meeting God there on our six-day pilgrimage from January 22 through January 27, 2027.
For most of us on the East Coast, “the border” is an issue we might consider more or less abstractly. This pilgrimage will put faces to the issue. We will visit shelters, meet detainees, speak with immigration attorneys, pastors, Border Patrol agents, and others who will help us understand what is happening at a more human level. We will spend time together in prayer and worship, hike, enjoy amazing food, and return home — we trust — inspired and challenged and changed.
The estimated cost is $2,010 per person, and includes airfare, lodging, ground transportation, food, and all program expenses. If you are interested, please email our organizer, Sarah Zepeda at sszepeda@gmail.com who is helping to organize this trip. We can provide you with a sample itinerary and will schedule a Zoom informational gathering to answer initial questions.
May the road rise up to meet us!
