PALM SUNDAY MEDITATION
[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpUgu8nT1nI” el_width=”70″ align=”center”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]1 minute meditation. Students can lie on the floor, close their eyes, or sit cross-legged. We want them to put themselves into the shoes of a child in Jesus’ time on Palm Sunday!
SAY: It’s a hot, steamy day outside. You are a child living in the city of Jerusalem more than 2,000 years ago. You just finished your lunch of dates, figs, and bread with olives, and you are getting ready to take an afternoon nap on the hammock on your roof.
You hear a commotion outside of your door. Slowly, throughout the morning, it has been getting louder and louder outside. A crowd has been gathering. You climb up the steps to the roof and come out into the sunshine. There will be no afternoon nap today. “Hosanna!” someone says. “Blessed is the King of Israel!” Down over the side of the roof you see the crowd stretching all the way from the market to the gates of the city. They are lining the streets just like they would if a Roman ruler was coming to town.
“Ema!” you call. Your mother comes up and joins you on the roof. “Someone important is coming to town!” You can feel the hot sun beating down, but the crowd doesn’t care about the sun. They are shouting about something…about someone. “What does it all mean?” you wonder. Far in the distance you see the gates of the city open. People surge into the already-crowded streets. In the center is a man riding on a small donkey, surrounded closely by his followers and friends. They come closer, and the crowd gets louder.
You hear people playing drums and stringed instruments, and stamping their feet. The ground almost rumbles with their noise. The people in the market begin running to the grassy areas and pulling branches off of the trees, bringing them back and passing them out to the crowds. Some put their branches and their coats on the road, making a soft carpet, and others wave them in the air. You can smell the crushed palm leaves as the animals and people in the crowd trample them down.
“Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!” the crowd says. Some sing songs from the religious traditions. Some cry tears of joy. You begin to realize what is happening. You know who the Lord God is. Your people have followed God for centuries since Abraham long ago. And for hundreds of years, your people have been waiting for a Messiah, a savior, to come and free them from the oppressive Romans. The savior would bring new joy, peace and happiness to the world. But is this man the one that your people have been waiting for? The crowd seems to think so, for now.
Who knows. We will have to see. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_zigzag color=”peacoc”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]
BIBLE VERSES (JANUARY – APRIL)
[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]January – March[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/xTjmEm5qh0k” el_width=”70″ align=”center”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]April[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/LBvO7fiALUA” el_width=”70″ align=”center”][vc_empty_space][vc_zigzag color=”peacoc”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]
WORD OF THE MONTH
[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]PEACE
Harmony, security, and completeness.
Peace is like the feeling of a river moving calmly through the trees. Peace is like cuddling with your favorite pet or stuffed animal. When do you feel peace? How do you think God gives you peace? Can you give peace to others?[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_zigzag color=”peacoc”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]
GOD SIGHTINGS
[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]
If you are comfortable, light a real candle and pass it carefully around from child to child as they share their God Sightings.
[SAY]: Let’s do our God Sightings! This candle represents that God sightings light up the world with love. A God Sighting is something you see or do that reminds you of God’s love. Make sure your God Sighting includes God’s Love! [Start by sharing your God Sighting and allow others to share]

BIBLE STORY
[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTmbTuutBgg”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]What do you think Jesus was rescuing those people from?
Does Jesus rescue us, too? How?
If Jesus was here today, how do you think you would feel about him?
How do you think our town would feel about him? Talk about some of the negative things people might say. Talk about some of the positive things people might say.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_zigzag color=”peacoc”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]
MOVEMENT ACTIVITY
[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]SAY: Does anyone know what a “Star jump” is? A star jump is when you jump in the air, throw your arms and legs out, and clap them back together before you land on the ground! A star jump looks like many things: a starfish, a star, a waving tree, or a palm branch! Have a competition and see how many star jumps you can do in 1 minute. They take a lot of energy![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_zigzag color=”peacoc”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

We will unfortunately be unable to celebrate Palm Sunday at church with our beautiful “Hosanna In the Highest” song. However, if you would like to sing along one more time, here’s the song!

PRAYER TIME
[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]
Dear Jesus,
We pray just like the people prayed on Palm Sunday:
Hosanna! Blessed is the King!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
We pray that our words and actions
would always bless you.
We pray that our words and actions
would always bless other people.
Amen.
