It’s Friday!
[/vc_message][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]
I am feeling a little bit “content saturated”…there is so much to read, watch, and try online. How about you? I recognize that I might just be adding to the noise…but remember the big priorities during this time:
- Showing love to each other
- Learning together!
Keep those in mind, and everything else will settle in the background.

ART THERAPY ACTIVITY
[/vc_message][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Most people would probably agree that it’s easier to express or recognize hurts and regrets when there’s the distance between yourself and the problem. This is why the postcard activity can be a good self-discovery exercise that helps answer the question, “What would I say to someone if I didn’t have to do it face-to-face?”
This activity can be used in one-to-one or group sessions. Here’s how to conduct the activity:
- Print out the postcard in the link or simply create a postcard style template to use. One side can be completely blank for drawing on, and one side can be laid out with some lines for writing on.
- Ask participants to reflect on a situation or person they feel or felt frustrated, angry, upset, or sad about. Spend a moment simply thinking about and reflecting on what happened, how it felt, and what they would like to let the person know about how the experience made them feel.
- On the blank side of the postcard, ask participants to draw or create a visual representation of how they felt or still feel about the experience. Explain there is total freedom with this, and they can create anything they like with any materials.
- On the lined side of the postcard, participants can write what they would like to say if they could.
- Use what they draw and write to explore their emotions further and discuss how they might begin to work towards a healing resolution.

Improving Non-Verbal Communication With Your Child
From Raisingchildren.net.au
[/vc_message][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Body language and tone of voice are key parts of nonverbal communication. You can use them to send positive nonverbal messages and reinforce what you’re saying to your child.
Here are some ideas:
- Touch your child’s arm to let your child know you’re interested and you care about what she’s saying or doing.
- Turn to face your child and use lots of eye contact. This says, ‘I’m giving you my full attention’ and ‘You’re important to me’.
- Bend down to your child’s level. This shows you want to be close and helps your child feel more secure. It also helps with eye contact, especially for younger children.
- ‘Mirror’ your child. This means using the same facial expression or tone of voice as your child. It can show him that you’re trying to understand his feelings. For example, if your child smiles at you, smile back. If he’s sad, nod your head and look a bit sad yourself.
- Use a pleasant tone of voice and a relaxed body posture and facial expression when you talk with your child. This helps your child see you as open and ready to listen. And it also makes it easy for your child to tell the difference when you’re not happy with her behaviour.
- Give your child lots of cuddles!
