Please note that the discussion has been removed to protect the privacy of our participants. However, see below some of Dr. Olson’s words from the question period:
-
You never stop being a parent. But listening at every age changes both sides.
-
The process of being listened to IS validation. Repeat their words back to them.
-
Give your child power over their environment. Recognize them as a person. Let them experience agency.
-
When parents are under stress, they often revert to management instead of listening and responding.
-
When children are under stress, it is easy for them to revert to anger. It is easier to be angry than to deal with fear. Help them balance gratitude with anger. This anger may be part of their grief.
-
If your child wants to share a moment with you and you are unable to do so at that time, circle back with them at another time. Perhaps you loose the golden opportunity in that moment, but you won’t loose every opportunity. It’s about progress, not perfection.

Due to our new circumstances, Ben and Christine will depart FCC on the morning of May 9th to bring pre-sorted bags of food, clothing by size, and toiletries to the homeless of Manhattan. Our drop-off days are as follows; simply leave your items in the Dream Center. It will be unlocked for you during that time. If you are unable to get to the store to purchase these items, Pastor Ben and Mrs. G. will do it for you. Please drop off monetary donations into the mailbox at 11 Brookside Road and let Ben or Christine know.
Wednesday – Friday this week, 7-9pm
Sign up here for specific items!
