ACCESS (5th – 8th Grade)
Middle School Access is run by Director of Family and Young Adult Ministries, Amber Scovell, with help from the middle school parents. Access is a three-year program for grades 5-7 (8th grade confirmands are welcome, too!).
ACCESS gets together once a month for an official meeting. We spend our time playing games, eating snacks, and diving deeper into the Bible and Christianity. This is a great time to for the students to study scripture, ask questions, and make friends!
Our current ACCESS class has been undergoing a series entitled “Weird Bible Stories,” where we read some of the silly and more outrageous stories from scripture and talk about them. ACCESS’s main goal is to get students asking real questions about what they have grown up thinking about the Bible or Christianity, and to learn together that sometimes we won’t find a satisfactory answer…but we can still have a robust and joyous faith.
Outside of our regular meetings, we also participate in service projects and group outings. This year we helped pack bags for the unhoused residents of NYC. We also had some fun with an outdoor movie night and glow in the dark ropes course.
ACCESS is a pre-confirmation class.
