Rev. Dean Lindsey reflects on Jesus’ challenging blessing, “Blessed are those who mourn,” reminding us that grief is not a weakness but a sign of love, awareness, and moral life.
Mourning includes not only the loss of loved ones, but also the quiet grief we feel when peace, trust, justice, or hope seem absent.
Jesus blesses those who grieve because he sees them. He names their pain and promises comfort—not only in the future, but through the presence and care of a compassionate community. To mourn is to notice what is broken and to refuse indifference. It is also the beginning of healing, connection, and faithful action.
