Every public school student in Darien learns that our church took a brave stance against slavery and served as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Inspired by the boldness of our forebears, we still seek to care for those who move in the shadows. Today, it is our immigrant neighbors who are in need. Many immigrants, even those with legal status, are too afraid of being detained and harassed to leave their homes — even to go to work. Even to visit area food banks.
Families in our church have organized with others in the community to provide emergency relief. Every week, we deliver the following four staples — bags of rice, dried beans, pasta, and tomato sauce — to a secret warehouse in Norwalk. From there, food is quietly and carefully delivered to the homes of immigrant families whose names are not even known.
You can support this underground effort by:
1) Signing up as one of four lead contributors and purchasing $75 of the staples listed above. Sign Up HERE
2) Bringing any of the staples listed above to church on Sundays in any quantity.
3) Praying for our immigrant neighbors.
The food must be dropped off at the church by Wednesday of each week. Please only purchase the staples listed above.
Onward in loving our neighbors as ourselves!
